The Classic and Tommy's Margaritas Are Two Shopping Lists
Classic and Tommy's Margaritas may share a name, but not a shopping list.

“Make non-alcoholic Margaritas” sounds like a single shopping instruction. Lyre's US publishes at least two recipes under that umbrella. Its Classic Margarita uses Tequila Alternative and Orange Sec, plus lime and white sugar syrup. Its Tommy's Margarita uses Tequila Alternative, lime and agave syrup, without Orange Sec. Both are shaken with ice. They are not the same formula with one bottle casually omitted.
The useful decision happens before the first pour: which glass are you planning, and which basket actually completes it?
Put the right recipe beside the cart
| Per glass, according to Lyre's US | Classic Margarita | Tommy's Margarita |
|---|---|---|
| Tequila Alternative | 1½ fl oz | 2 fl oz |
| Orange Sec | ½ fl oz | None specified |
| Lime juice | 1 fl oz | 1 fl oz |
| Syrup | ¼ fl oz white sugar syrup, 1:1 | ½ fl oz premium agave syrup |
| Optional | Dash of orange bitters | Pinch of salt |
The two drinks share one ounce of lime. Everything else in the measured basket either changes quantity or changes ingredient. If you own Tequila Alternative but not Orange Sec, Tommy's does not require that second Lyre's bottle—but it does require agave syrup. If you have the brand's Blanco Margarita Set, you have the two Lyre's alternatives used by the Classic, not automatically the syrup, fresh lime, ice or garnishes. The set page itself names both bottles and gives a Classic mixing instruction; a boxed set is a partial recipe basket, not a finished drink.
For a first round of six Classic Margaritas, the exact multiplication is 9 fl oz Tequila Alternative, 3 fl oz Orange Sec, 6 fl oz lime juice and 1½ fl oz 1:1 white sugar syrup. For six Tommy's Margaritas, it is 12 fl oz Tequila Alternative, 6 fl oz lime and 3 fl oz agave syrup. Those quantities are for six individually prepared glasses, not a validated pitcher recipe. The Classic also leaves optional orange bitters to assess; the Tommy's optional salt is not the same thing as an obligatory salted rim.
Method and presentation have their own differences. Lyre's says to shake the Classic briefly with ice, fine-strain into a half salt-rimmed cocktail coupette, and garnish with a lime wedge. Tommy's is briefly shaken and fine-strained into an Old Fashioned glass, also with a lime wedge. These are two published presentations, not an instruction to buy new glassware: use a vessel that safely holds the chosen drink.
The name “Classic” does not make the Orange Sec dispensable; the name “Tommy's” does not guarantee that any agave syrup is interchangeable. Read the syrup product and the drinker's ingredient requirements on the actual packages. Lyre's describes its products as non-alcoholic, but a guest with a strict threshold should check the exact bottle rather than infer from this article's shorthand.
If you want only one shopping list, make the choice at the recipe level. Choose Classic and plan the second alternative plus the 1:1 syrup. Choose Tommy's and plan more Tequila Alternative per glass plus agave syrup. The wrong bottle is not rescued by a Margarita-shaped garnish.
